چکیده

Abstract Introduction Early post-operative dependency aids healing following lower limb reconstruction although increases venostasis and reduces perfusion in the acute setting. The commonest cause of flap failure is venous congestion external compression with stockings pneumatic devices contraindicated. aim this clinical study was to determine whether could be reduced through patient-led isometric contractions reconstruction. Method A single centre prospective conducted at St. Marys Hospital, Imperial College NHS Trust. Combined tissue photospectroscopy laser Doppler (O2C, LEA, Germany) used assess superficial oxygen saturation, flow during standardised training regimens. Haemodynamic parameters were collected an outpatient rehabilitation cohort. Result In cohort, failed improve on day (POD) one (-44% ± 8). Isometric improved from POD5 (+11% 102) remained higher than measurements taken rest (+32% 54). cohort significantly increased (+16% 33, p=0.01) a mean 14 weeks since discharge. Conclusion This provides objective physiological evidence haemodynamic changes that occur contraction These evolve extremity it appears continued effect exists accommodate progressive dynamics. present findings inform enhanced recovery programmes Take-home message Simple calf reduce cutaneous

Weight changes following lower limb arthroplasty: a prospective observational study.

The aim of this study was to assess patterns of weight loss/gain following total hip or knee joint replacement. Four hundred and fifty primary lower limb arthroplasty patients, where the current surgery was the last limiting factor to improved mobility, were selected. Over a one year period 212 gained weight (mean 5.03kg), 92 remained static, and 146 lost weight. The median change was a weight ...

Feedforward and Feedback Function of Selected Lower Limb Muscles Following Plyometric Exercises and Cryotherapy

Purpose: Despite the widespread use of cryotherapy in sports fields there is a lack of certain evidence of its impact of it on muscle activation especially following fatigue-induced exercise. This study aimed to assess the impact of cryotherapy alone and after plyometric exercises on knee muscle activation during the drop jump task. Method: 35 active female subjects (mean age of 22.74±2.10, m...

Editorial Upper and Lower Limb Reconstruction Following Trauma

Trauma management has long been debated and although presentations of trauma do vary the initial approach and later decision making have become more standardised with time. This series covers the choices that need to be made when a trauma case presents, including the initial management of open fractures, as well as the range of options available for flap reconstruction of both the upper and low...

Parallel Robot for Lower Limb Rehabilitation Exercises

The aim of this study is to investigate the capability of a 6-DoF parallel robot to perform various rehabilitation exercises. The foot trajectories of twenty healthy participants have been measured by a Vicon system during the performing of four different exercises. Based on the kinematics and dynamics of a parallel robot, a MATLAB program was developed in order to calculate the length of the a...

Perforator Flaps for Reconstruction of Lower Limb Defects

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of soft tissue defects in the lower third of the leg remains challenging. Anatomical constraints limit the local options available for complex defects especially lower third of leg. Local flaps based on perforator vessels are raising interest in reconstructive surgery of the limbs. We present our experience with perforator flaps for reconstruction of soft tissue def...
